Summer Reading Program Be Creative at Your Library

How Do You Like to Be Creative?

I’m going to keep this post short and sweet. I know everyone is really busy getting everything ready for this years Summer Library Program.

Let the kids color as they gear up for the summer library reading program Be Creative @ Your Library with a free coloring page from Billy Gorilly. “How Do You Like to be Creative?” The file also contains a template for two different bookmarks

Listen to Billy Gorilly’s Podcast episode 16. The first segment features Billy Gorilly and Mrs. Flicker Fireflybrarian promoting the summer reading program. They want to get the kids excited about going to the library. There are 3 other sections of the podcast where kids will learn how to count backwards, listen to the story of the “Oxen and The Lion” told Billy Gorilly style, and the song Do You Know What Time it is? This podcast is perfect for children 3-6.

Are kids under 12 going to be banned from the library?

No Kids at the library?

If you don’t want kids under 12 banned from the library you might want to read this blog at Twittermoms.com . There is a new law about childrens products and lead. This law would make it so the libraries would have to remove all the kids books or not let kids under 12 in the library.

This is the title of the press release from the ALA (american library association)

Exempt Libraries from Regulation Under
Consumer Product Safety Act

I for one love the libraries and feel they are so valuable to our community. This can’t happen. I know that the government is trying to keep kids safe, but is this to much?

Spread the word so this does not happen.

Sincerely,

Catch The Reading Bug

Follow The Road To Literacy

Billy Gorilly says “If You Want To Be A Leader, First You’ve Got To Be A Reader”

This quote comes from the lyrics in Billy Gorilly’s “Catch The Reading Bug” theme song. It is also the subject of the Newsletter I just finished for my company, Flying Kitten Music (billygorilly.com). We feel it is so important that children learn to read that we have been promoting and encouraging parents to keep their children reading over the summer by signing up for the summer reading program at your local library. This year the theme for most U.S., libraries is you guessed it, Catch The Reading bug. If you have children and you want a great way to help them learn and love to read I urge you to take them to the library over the summer vacation. In most cases there is no cost to you. Just sign up and feel good about helping your child learn

Catchy tunes for Catch the Reading Bug is the title of a post on the New York Statewide Summer Reading Blog. They have posted a link to Billy Gorilly’s song under a catchy little mp3. They stated, Billy Gorilla instead of Gorilly. Thats ok as long as they think we have a catchy little tune. They also have other helpful information on the reading program so you you should check them out.

If you would like to check out the most Recent Billy Gorilly Family newsletter go here. It includes links to some really cool stuff (if I do say so myself). There are free downloadable templates for bookmarks, reading logs, and bug word search. We offer a free downloadable MP3 version of Billy’s Catch The Reading Bug song. The full version is offered as a bonus song on Billy Gorilly:Happy Birthday Gertie CD. We also put the link to Billy Gorilly’s Podcast for Kids and a couple of very simple recipes. I had so much fun making this recipe. I took the picture of the finished apples in my backyard, it had the best lighting. These would make a great after school snack for the kids.
